Not safely in every device. Nic salts are designed for a specific type of low-wattage setup. This guide covers every common UK vaping device and tells you exactly which are compatible with nic salts and which require a different e-liquid format.
Quick Answer: No. Nic salts cannot safely be used in every vaping device. They are designed for low-wattage, high-resistance setups: refillable pod kits, MTL vape pens and starter kits running below 18W with coils above 0.6ohm. They should never be used in sub-ohm tanks, high-power box mods with low-resistance coils or any device producing large DTL clouds. The correct e-liquid for any device depends on its coil resistance and wattage, not its physical size or brand.
Every compatibility question about nic salts comes down to the same two variables: coil resistance and device wattage. These two factors together determine how much vapour is produced per puff and therefore how much nicotine is delivered. Get both within the correct range and nic salts work perfectly. Get either one wrong and the result is uncomfortable at best and unsafe at worst.
Higher resistance coils (above 0.6ohm) produce less vapour per puff and keep nicotine delivery controlled. Lower resistance coils (below 0.6ohm, especially sub-ohm coils below 0.5ohm) produce much more vapour per puff and are not safe with high-strength nic salts. This is the single most important compatibility factor.
More wattage means more heat, more vapour and more nicotine per puff. Nic salts belong in devices running at 8W to 18W. At 30W, 50W or 100W, even a moderate-resistance coil delivers far too much nicotine per draw with 10mg to 20mg nic salt. Keep wattage below 18W when using 20mg and below 20W for 10mg.

If you are unsure whether your current device is suitable for nic salts, these three questions will give you the answer.
Check the coil installed in your device. The ohm rating is printed on the coil itself or on the packaging. If it is 0.8ohm or above, your device may be compatible. If it is below 0.6ohm, it is not suitable for 10mg or 20mg nic salts. Look for an MTL or mouth-to-lung label on the coil as a further confirmation.
If your device has a fixed wattage below 18W, it is likely compatible. If it is adjustable, set it to 10W to 15W. If your device only operates above 25W to 30W, it is designed for sub-ohm freebase vaping and is not suitable for high-strength nic salts at any coil setting in typical use.
Does the device produce a tight, cigarette-like draw (MTL) or a big open lung-filling hit (DTL)? MTL devices are compatible with nic salts. DTL devices are not suitable with 10mg or 20mg strengths. If you are unsure, take a dry draw: if the airflow is tight and restricted, it is likely MTL. If it is very open and airy, it is DTL.

All disposable vapes sold in the UK before the June 2025 ban used nic salt e-liquid, so the format was already compatible with that type of device by design. Prefilled pod kits that replace the disposable experience also use nic salts. If your device is a closed-system prefilled pod kit, the pods are already filled with nic salt e-liquid and no separate purchase is needed.
It depends on the type. A vape pen designed for MTL use with coils above 1.0ohm and a fixed wattage below 15W is suitable for nic salts. A vape pen designed for sub-ohm or DTL use with low-resistance coils is not. Check the coil resistance listed on the pen or its packaging. If it is a high-resistance 1.0ohm to 1.8ohm MTL pen, nic salts are appropriate.
In a high-wattage device with a low-resistance coil, a few puffs of 20mg nic salt can cause dizziness, nausea, a racing heartbeat and shaking hands. These are symptoms of nicotine overconsumption. Stop vaping immediately if any of these occur, sit down and drink water. Symptoms typically pass within 20 to 30 minutes. Switch to the correct device and e-liquid combination before vaping again.
