Vaping does not directly cause acne, but it can make breakouts more likely and harder to clear. The good news is that the main culprits are well understood and the fixes are mostly simple skincare and hydration changes.
Acne is not caused by one single thing. It happens when oil, dead skin cells, bacteria and inflammation combine. Vaping affects several of these at once.

Nicotine raises oil production
Nicotine stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum. More oil means more chance of clogged pores and breakouts.

Reduced blood flow to skin
Nicotine narrows blood vessels (vasoconstriction). Less blood flow means less oxygen and nutrients reaching skin cells, which slows healing of existing spots.

Skin dehydration
PG and VG are hygroscopic. They pull moisture from your mouth, throat and to some extent your skin. Dry skin often over-compensates by producing more oil.

Inflammation
Some compounds in vape aerosol can trigger low-grade inflammation. That makes existing breakouts redder and longer-lasting.
Dermatologists report some specific patterns in vapers. If your acne fits one of these, vaping is worth considering as a trigger.
Worth knowing: skin often gets better after switching from cigarettes, not worse. Cigarette smoke contains thousands of inflammatory chemicals that vape aerosol does not.
A lot of former smokers see their skin improve in the weeks after switching. If yours is doing the opposite, the change is usually fixable with smaller adjustments rather than quitting vaping.
The most common reason for new breakouts after switching is nicotine strength being higher than what you used to smoke. Going from cigarettes to a 20mg nic salt disposable often delivers more total nicotine through the day than the cigarettes did, and the skin reacts.
Most cases improve within a few weeks with these changes. Try them in roughly this order.
Drink more water
The simplest fix. An extra 500ml to 1 litre a day helps skin stay properly hydrated so it does not over-produce oil in response to dryness.
Drop your nicotine strength
If you are on 20mg, try 10mg. If you are on 10mg, try 6mg. Reducing nicotine reduces the hormonal and sebum effects on skin.
Wash your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser
Removes residue, excess oil and bacteria. Avoid harsh scrubs which can make inflammation worse.
Use a non-comedogenic moisturiser
Non-comedogenic means it does not block pores. Keeps skin hydrated without adding to the problem.
Wipe your mouth area after vaping
Reduces residue around the lips and chin, which is the most common breakout site for vapers.
Avoid touching your face with vape-holding hands
Hands holding a device all day collect residue, which transfers to skin every time you touch your face.

Vaping does not directly cause acne

Persistent severe acne needs proper attention
See your GP if breakouts are severe or affecting your wellbeing. Prescription options work well when over-the-counter products do not.
