Vape wattage is the amount of electrical power your device sends to the coil, measured in watts. Higher wattage means hotter coil, more vapour, more flavour intensity. Lower wattage means cooler vapour, longer coil life, longer battery life. The right setting depends on your coil.
Pressing fire on a vape sends electrical power from the battery to the coil. That power heats the coil. The coil heats the e-liquid soaked into the cotton wick. That liquid becomes vapour. The wattage you set tells the mod how much power to deliver.
More watts means more heat means more vapour. But it also means faster e-liquid use, faster battery drain and shorter coil life. The skill is finding the sweet spot: enough power for the vape you want, not so much that you waste battery, e-liquid and coils.
Every coil ships with a recommended wattage range, usually printed on the coil itself in tiny text and shown on the packaging.
Within the recommended range, where you sit changes the experience. Most users settle at the middle. The two extremes have their use cases.
Lower end of the range
Upper end of the range
The practical recommendation for most users: aim for the middle of the recommended range. A coil rated 40-60W runs best at 50W. A coil rated 15-25W runs best at 20W. This gives a balanced experience without sacrificing coil or battery life.

Below the recommended range
Weak vapour, muted flavour, possible flooding. The coil cannot vapourise liquid as fast as the wick supplies it. Excess liquid pools and gurgles.

At the minimum recommended wattage
Acceptable but underwhelming. Cooler vapour. Worst-case symptoms of under-firing are absent but the vape feels lacklustre.

Middle of the range
The sweet spot. Good vapour, good flavour, reasonable coil and battery life. Where most users settle.

At the maximum recommended wattage
Hot vapour, intense flavour (sometimes harsh), big clouds. Coil life drops by 30-50% compared to middle. Battery drains rapidly.

Above the recommended range
Burnt cotton, dry hits, broken flavour, very short coil life. Avoid. Damages the coil rapidly and produces harmful breakdown products.
Most regulated box mods have up and down buttons for wattage adjustment. Some pod kits have preset wattage that cannot be changed.
Check the coil's recommended range
Look at the coil itself or the box. Numbers like “0.6 ohm 15-25W” tell you the resistance and recommended wattage range.
Set the mod to the middle of the range
For a 15-25W coil, set 20W. For a 40-60W coil, set 50W.
Take a few puffs at the middle setting
Note the flavour, vapour and temperature. This is your baseline.
Adjust by 2-3W at a time
If you want warmer or more intense, increase. If you want cooler or smoother, decrease. Stay within the recommended range.
Lock the wattage
Once you have your sweet spot, lock the buttons (usually three rapid clicks on the up/down button on most mods). Prevents accidental adjustment.
Wattage interacts with the VG/PG ratio of your e-liquid. Mismatched combinations cause leaks, dry hits and poor flavour.
Match e-liquid to coil to wattage. The kit you buy usually pairs these correctly out of the box. If you change e-liquid type, you may need to change coil too.
Many entry-level pod kits do not have wattage adjustment. They have a preset power level chosen by the manufacturer to suit the pod's coil. This is by design, not a limitation.
Wattage is power going to the coil
Higher = hotter, more vapour, faster coil burn. Lower = cooler, longer coil life, less vapour.
Match wattage to coil rating
Every coil has a recommended range printed on it. Stay within it. Aim for the middle for best balance.
Start in the middle, adjust by 2-3W
Get a baseline. Then fine-tune up or down based on preference. Never exceed the maximum recommended wattage.
